When I was at the Lebowski Fest: Speed Of Sound Tour a young blond college student doing research for a paper approached me and my wife and asked us why we were there. I replied, “All the Dude wanted was his rug back.” She blankly stared at me. I realize this is the usual response when I say anything to women, but she obviously hadn’t seen the movie. Despite not being the Coen brothers favorite, “The Big Lebowski” has reached “Rocky Horror picture Show” proportions. What started as a small gathering of freaks has turned into a national tour of…freaks. I think it strikes a chord with some because the we all have a “Dude” inside of us that just wants to flow along with life like a leaf in a stream…wow, that was fuckin’ Zen. We all “just want our rug back”. The daily grind, commute, bills, news gets to us and sometimes we just want to hit the eject button and be free of societal pressures to “Achieve”. Am I making sense? Is this a weekday…? Here’s some of what I captured at Lebowski Fest with the Hsu Cam before the caucasians got the best of me.
I was really afraid for Barack Obama and ACORN for a while. I thought that some kind of exhaustive, comprehensive, turn over every stone investigation was going to occur and that might lead to problems for our President. I mean, he did tell us to “judge him by the company” he kept, didn’t he? And this organization, that he represented in several court cases back when he was a practicing attorney, and that gave him their endorsement in the primary and general elections, has been associated with some pretty scary stuff. But now everything is ok. We have just learned that, in the interest of looking near and far for an impartial voice, ACORN has hired former Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger to conduct an investigation of their practices. Yes, that Scott Harshbarger. The lifelong Democrat and former candidate for Governor here in the Commonwealth. I’m sure he will get right to the bottom of any illegal activities that may be happening!
If you don’t know much about the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), let me you catch you up to speed. It is the largest radical group in the country, with over 400,000 dues paying member families. It was co-founded by Wade Rathke, who just so happened to be a member of another infamous radical group along with William Ayers, The Students for A Democratic Society. You know, the ones who liked to set off bombs in the 60’s under the guise of bringing about “change”? Some of the highlights of ACORN activities over the last year: fraudulent voter registration, vote for pay scandals, breaking and entering into foreclosed homes, and voter intimidation.
Asking Harshbarger to investigate ACORN is like asking Belichick to look into Spygate. Does anyone really believe that there will be a fair and proper examination of the recent outrageous activities caught on film at several ACORN offices? If you do, I have a mansion in Chicago next to Tony Rezko I’d like to sell you at a $300,000 discount.
Last week ACORN’s Federal Cash flow was shut off, when videos appeared showing ACORN employees telling two filmakers, posing as a pimp and a prostitute, how to LIE to qualify for a mortgage. Where I come from, that’s fraud. And quite frankly, that’s the kind of behavior that put us into the financial nightmare we are in now in this country. ACORN has been pressuring banks to lend money to UNQUALIFIED MINORITIES for years-don’t you wonder how long they’ve been telling the people they “advocate” for to lie to get a mortgage?
The ACORN investigation should be conducted by the Justice Department under the RICO statutes but that will never happen. Instead we get the proverbial fox checking out the hen house. It’s business as usual and you’re the one who pays for it.

Black Gives Way to Blue, is being streamed online before its official release on September 29. The record is the first for the band in nearly 14 years and features Elton John playing a piano part for the title track, a tribute to the band’s late lead singer, Layne Staley, who died in 2002. Alice in Chains will wrap up a tour in the U.S. at the end of September, before moving on to the U.K. for three shows in November.

Tomorrow, September 17, 2009 a local Massachusetts soldier is being welcomed into a sacred group… Medal of Honor recipients.
Sargeant First Class Jared Monti who was born in Abington, raised in Raynham, and is buried at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in the East Room of the White House at 1:45 EDT.
SFC Monti, who would have turned 34 on Sunday, died on a remote ridge in Afghanistan trying to save his men on June 21, 2006.

• engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or
• serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.
The meritorious conduct must involve great personal bravery or self-sacrifice so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the individual above his or her comrades and must have involved risk of life. There must be incontestable proof of the performance of the meritorious conduct, and each recommendation for the award must be considered on the standard of extraordinary merit.”

President Obama to Award Medal of Honor to Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti
WASHINGTON – On Thursday, September 17th, the President will award Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti, U.S. Army, the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sergeant First Class Monti will receive the Medal of Honor posthumously for his heroic actions in combat in Afghanistan. Then-Staff Sergeant Monti displayed immeasurable courage and uncommon valor – eventually sacrificing his own life in an effort to save his comrade. Sergeant First Class Monti’s parents, Paul Monti and Janet Monti, will join the President at the White House to commemorate their son’s example of selfless service and sacrifice.
If you are ever fortunate enough to meet a M.O.H. recipient, you are in the presence of a true American HERO!

I now fully feel the pain of Mike Myers. I now understand what a complete ass-hat Kanye West is and why Mike Myers just didn’t know what to say on that fateful day in 2005 when he stood next to Kanye on national TV and watched him utter the immortal words “George Bush doesn’t care about black people”.
If you haven’t seen it yet, please watch Kanye hijack an awards presentation for Best Female Video at last night’s MTV video music awards. You will be shocked by the thuggery.
Kanye is a world class A-hole, but I guess we knew that. It wasn’t enough that he blamed the problems of an entire city, caught up in a horrendous natural disaster, on the supposed racism of a white President. It wasn’t enough when he cried racism after he didn’t win at the 2007 MTV awards, and said he’d never go on the network again. But, it’s enough now. To ruin a celebratory night for a teenager, a nineteen year old, because you are a baby who hasn’t won a stupid Moonbat award, or whatever MTV calls them, is SHAMEFUL.
What does Mr. West do in his spare time? Drive over puppies with his Hummer limosine? Push baby carriages out in the middle of traffic? Put his blunt out in the eyes of senior citizens? What a complete D-bag!
I join Donald Trump in calling for a boycott of all things Kanye. I actually think he has some talent, I like some of his music, but I am sick of those who continue to use racism as a crutch in this country. You haven’t won a stupid award yet, bro, and it’s not because you’re black. It’s because you are not good enough. Maybe MTV doesn’t think sampling is such a talent after all. Plenty of African American artists have won… in fact, the woman you were whining about last night, Beyonce, won Video Of The Year. And showed how much class she has by inviting Taylor Swift to say a few things.
I hope MTV has seen enough at this point. How about we don’t invite Kanye back to the party anymore. Then he can really cry about how racist everybody is.
